You Can Lead Them to Water…

18 11 2007

You can lead folks to water, but you can’t make them drink. The point being is that I know people who have illnesses and are in pain who suffer from fatigue and other ailments that can be attributed to chronic dehydration. So would water remedy their condition?

I think that it is agreed that drinking good clean water is a great place to start. The problem is not the water intake at this point. The problem is the water source and the means of receiving that water. So you want to heal naturally and you do all that you can to take care of yourself. You buy the best bottled spring water. Most likely from a plastic container. Read this post about the dangers of plastic. Or maybe you feel that distilled water or reverse osmosis is the way to go. Guess again.

These waters are basically dead and purged of minerals. The water will replace these minerals from your body. This can create a whole series of other conditions. I’m not trying to instill fear, I just want to make you aware of the fact that spring water bottled in plastic is acidic and is also in plastic. I don’t believe that allowing PCBs from plastic to enter your body via acidic water is beneficial in any way to any condition or ailment that you may suffer from. By drinking Kangen water from Enagic you are assured that you are drinking clean water, with a pH that will assist to bring your body to a slightly alkaline state. You are also ensuring that your body is absorbing the water at a molecular level because you are drinking Kangen water, which is also known as micro-clustered water or structured water.

Increasing Alkalinity And Increasing Oxygenation

14 11 2007

Increasing alkalinity and increasing oxygenation are two sides of the same coin. For reasons you now understand, more alkalinity increases oxygenation and more oxygenation increases alkalinity. Everything you do to improve alkalinity or oxygenation helps both - they complement each other. Cancer exists when the physiology is in a state called acid-hypoxia (acidic and low oxygen). Health exists when the physiology is in a state called alkaline-hyperoxia (alkaline and lots of oxygen). The two states are mutually exclusive

Atopic Dermatitis 15 Million Americans Show Symptoms

31 10 2007

What is Atopic Dermatitis? Atopic Dermatitis is a reoccurring skin condition. A person with Atopic Dermatitis develops dry, red and very itchy skin: From an abnormal reaction to irritants, environmental allergens and certain foods.

Usually, this condition develops in childhood, in conjunction with other Atopic diseases like Asthma and Hay Fever.

The cause is unknown. It is believed that a combination of genetic and environmental factors may be the culprits.

Measuring Your Own Acid-Base Balance

11 09 2007

Checking your urine may not be a very pleasant task. But doing so can give you information about your own acid/alkaline balance. It gives information about your healthy ratio of acid/alkaline-forming foods and how your acid/alkaline balance changes with your monthly cycle, stress or other factors in your life.

Measuring your acid-base balance at home is done easily by collecting all urine produced in 24 hours. You will want to start with your second urine of the first day through the first urine of the next day. You can use the plastic water bottles you have sitting around that are not safe for storing drinking water anyway. Shake the total collection a few times, then simply dip in some pH paper and read it. Don’t be afraid –test your urine; it’s sterile! My source recommends pHydrion paper by Micro Essential Laboratory, Inc, in Brooklyn, NY (phone 718-338-3618; fax 718-692-4491). The range is from 5.5 to 8.0.

Generally pH range from 6.3 to 7.2 is within a safe range.

It is also good to check saliva pH. It is believed that saliva pH is an indicator of alkaline reserve in the body and the condition of the pH of the cells. A saliva pH of 6.8 to 7.2 taken before breakfast and before meals is considered normal. It should become more alkaline after meals, possibly around pH 7.2.

Some research indicates that if your pH before breakfast is below 6.2, it suggests an acid system with an inadequate amount of alkaline minerals, but with some alkaline reserve. After a meal, if the saliva pH is between 5.5 and 5.8 with no rise in pH, it means the body is extremely acid with no alkaline reserves left.

Although more research is being done on the question of optimal body pH, possibly the best way to tell if one is functioning at the best pH is to watch for the following characteristics.

Indicators of Optimal pH Function
1. Good energy
2. A calm nervous and muscle system
3. Bowels are moving regularly with effective digestion
4. Don’t catch colds or flu
5. General good feeling of physical, mental and spiritual vitality and clarity.

Too Alkaline?

15 05 2007

Recently, we were asked a question about the body being too alkaline.

Yes, it is possible for the body to be too alkaline.

Alkalosis is a condition of excess base, or alkali, in the body’s fluids. It is the opposite of acidosis, or excess acid in the body, and can be caused by different conditions.

The following information has been lifted directly from the MedlinePlus Medical Encyclopedia

Causes, incidence, and risk factors

The lungs and kidneys regulate the acid/base status of the body. Decreased carbon dioxide or increased bicarbonate levels create an excessive alkaline state called alkalosis.

Respiratory alkalosis is caused by lower carbon dioxide levels. Hyperventilation (increased rate of breathing) causes the body to lose carbon dioxide. Altitude or a disease that causes reduced oxygen in the blood triggers the individual to breathe faster. This reduces carbon dioxide levels which results in respiratory alkalosis.

Metabolic alkalosis is caused by an excess of bicarbonate in blood. Hypochloremic alkalosis is caused by an extreme lack or loss of chloride, such as may be caused by prolonged vomiting. The kidneys compensate for the chloride loss by conserving bicarbonate.

Hypokalemic alkalosis is caused by the kidneys’ reaction to an extreme lack or loss of potassium which may be caused by some diuretic medications.

Compensated alkalosis is caused when the body has partially compensated for alkalosis, returning the acid/base balance to normal, even though bicarbonate and carbon dioxide levels remain abnormal.

Symptoms

* Confusion (can progress to stupor or coma)
* Muscle twitching
* Hand tremor
* Prolonged muscle spasms (tetany)
* Nausea, vomiting
* Numbness or tingling in the face or extremities
* Light-headedness

Signs and tests

* Tests for pH indicate alkalosis or acidosis.
* Tests for carbon dioxide and bicarbonate levels indicate the cause of alkalosis or acidosis, either respiratory (breathing-related) or metabolic (kidney-related).

Some of these tests include:

* Arterial blood gas (or venous blood gas)
* Urinalysis
* Litmus paper (urine dipstick tests)
* Urine pH
* Chem-20

Treatment

Treatment of alkalosis depends on finding the specific cause. For alkalosis caused by hyperventilation, breathing into a paper bag causes more carbon dioxide to be retained. Oxygen may be administered.

Medications to correct chemical loss (chloride, potassium, etc.) may be needed. Vital signs (temperature, pulse, rate of breathing, blood pressure) are monitored.

Expectations (prognosis)

Most cases of alkalosis respond well to treatment.

Complications

* Coma
* Arrhythmias
* Electrolyte imbalance (such as hypokalemia)

Calling your health care provider

Call your health care provider if a person becomes confused, is unable to concentrate, or if the person is unable to “catch their breath”.

Go to the emergency room or call the local emergency number (such as 911) if a person passes out (loses consciousness), experiences severe breathing difficulties, has seizures, or if symptoms of alkalosis occur and rapidly worsen.

Prevention

The prevention depends on the cause of the alkalosis. Normally, individuals with healthy kidneys and lungs do not significantly experience alkalosis.
