The Shocking Hazards of MSG You May Not Know About Part 1

I had heard about MSG about 13 years ago, when a friend of mine had a severe reaction to it in some canned clams he was adding to the linguini sauce. I felt fine, but he was in such a state that he could not drive himself home. He was dizzy, and his eyesight was blurred.

Several years later, I experienced increased heart rate, and a severe flush to my face, to the point of hives. My hands shook, and my eyes would not focus. Juan told me that this was due to the MSG in my ramen noodles packet.

I had forgotten about it for about five or six years, until Juan had reminded me of it. He taught me to read labels in the supermarkets so that I would know exactly what I was putting into my body. One label he read contained MSG. I looked, but saw no sign of it. Juan pointed out “Monosodium Glutamate.”

Many people, I am finding out, do not know the technical name for MSG. It’s Monosodium Glutamate, also known as processed free glutamic acid. Long enough to be a bit difficult to read, but not quite as long as the other stuff I am still trying to figure out.

Knowing the words Monosoium Glutamate is not necessarily enough to catch the ingredient before you eat it. It’s become difficult to tell whether or not MSG is in the food, because it goes by so many names. The list is quite long, but here are just a few:

  • Gelatin
  • Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein (HVP)
  • Yeast Extract
  • Malted Barley
  • Rice Syrup or Brown Rice Syrup

I’ve come across a detailed web site listing the dangers of MSG, in brutally honest detail. It’s called TruthInLabeling.org. Please check out this web site.

Click here to learn about the presence of MSG in thousands of products, and their effects on the human body. Watch the videos to be more informed.

I didn’t know that many baby formulas contain a form of MSG.

This is the first in a series of articles I will be publishing about the dangers of MSG. Please check back to learn more.

Water is the fluid of life!

13 09 2007

Water is the fluid of life! It’s your best friend and ally when encouraging
physical balance and regeneration. Sufficient water intake significantly
increases the body’s ability to heal damaged tissue. Toxins are processed out
of the body allowing greater nutrient assimilation. Our basic cells thrive on
water and close off when dehydrated.

What is enough water? Water intake varies dependent on your lifestyle. A
general rule is this: half your weight in ounces (160 LB person = 80 oz of
water per day (cup=8 oz). If you exercise daily, jog or work hard physically,
even more water is important.

Water, for your body, is like the oil for your car. It’s all about having the
right amount in the right place. In today’s busy demanding world, drinking
water seems inconvenient. What most people don’t understand is the correlation
between pain and proper physical hydration. On a cellular level, the brain
regulates the fluidic flow with specific neurotransmitters. In many books by F.
Batmanghelidg M.D. he informs us about how vital proper water intake is for our
health, especially about our return to optimal wellness. His research has
spanned over thirty years and provides a crucial “wake up” call for common
dehydration signs. It is never too late to turn around a habit and begin anew.

The human body is made up of 65% water, the brain 85% water and lungs are 90%
water. So what happens in asthma, allergies and other respiratory dysfunctions?
The neurotransmitter histamine has increased, signaling a water rationing
program within the body. Histamines reduce air inflow by stimulating mucus to
plug and protect the bronchioles. Common antihistamine medications seek to
reduce histamine production. Therefore, adequate water intake will unilaterally
hydrate and rebalance systemic conditions over time.

What is not water? Many liquids contain water, but with other chemical
constituents which drain off more than their volume alone. Coffee, Tea, soda
and other common commercial beverages act as diuretics, removing extra fluid
from the body.

How can I change my water consumption? Support your return to great health with
SWAN. Shifting Water Attitudes Now. Changing attitudes supports and quickens
your recovery period. Water = Flow. Balanced water intake = freedom to flow.
Shifting an attitude changes the importance and balance of maintaining habits.
This attitude card aids the conscious shift, complementing graceful change and
optimum well-being.

How does water get incorporated into planets?

13 09 2007

According to NASA researchers, scientists are getting their first look at how water likely gets incorporated into planets. The water—enough to fill Earth’s oceans five times over—falls at supersonic speeds in the form of a hail-like substance from the envelope of dust and gas that gave birth to the star.

Measuring Your Own Acid-Base Balance

11 09 2007

Checking your urine may not be a very pleasant task. But doing so can give you information about your own acid/alkaline balance. It gives information about your healthy ratio of acid/alkaline-forming foods and how your acid/alkaline balance changes with your monthly cycle, stress or other factors in your life.

Measuring your acid-base balance at home is done easily by collecting all urine produced in 24 hours. You will want to start with your second urine of the first day through the first urine of the next day. You can use the plastic water bottles you have sitting around that are not safe for storing drinking water anyway. Shake the total collection a few times, then simply dip in some pH paper and read it. Don’t be afraid –test your urine; it’s sterile! My source recommends pHydrion paper by Micro Essential Laboratory, Inc, in Brooklyn, NY (phone 718-338-3618; fax 718-692-4491). The range is from 5.5 to 8.0.

Generally pH range from 6.3 to 7.2 is within a safe range.

It is also good to check saliva pH. It is believed that saliva pH is an indicator of alkaline reserve in the body and the condition of the pH of the cells. A saliva pH of 6.8 to 7.2 taken before breakfast and before meals is considered normal. It should become more alkaline after meals, possibly around pH 7.2.

Some research indicates that if your pH before breakfast is below 6.2, it suggests an acid system with an inadequate amount of alkaline minerals, but with some alkaline reserve. After a meal, if the saliva pH is between 5.5 and 5.8 with no rise in pH, it means the body is extremely acid with no alkaline reserves left.

Although more research is being done on the question of optimal body pH, possibly the best way to tell if one is functioning at the best pH is to watch for the following characteristics.

Indicators of Optimal pH Function
1. Good energy
2. A calm nervous and muscle system
3. Bowels are moving regularly with effective digestion
4. Don’t catch colds or flu
5. General good feeling of physical, mental and spiritual vitality and clarity.

More Information About the Dangers of Plastic

10 09 2007

Please check out Dr. Mercola’s newsletter article about the dangers of plastic. There are also several links to the original articles, if you want more detailed information.

Here’s the bottom line. When is the right time to listen to your instincts? How long will people wait to be told that plastics are just not safe? I, for one, have not been waiting for someone to tell me what is safe and what is not. I’ve read the information out there, and even though there is no “conclusive evidence,” I’d rather take action now.

If you’re already drinking Kangen Water, what are you transporting it in? Hopefully, not plastic, like I was. Was is the point in drinking the best water on the planet if it’s transported in plastic?

If you haven’t already, please check out www.SafeCanteen.com for a wide assortment in stainless steel water bottles.

Why stainless steel?

  • It’s non leaching, and safe.
  • It’s also much more practical than using glass, which we were doing at first. Glass gets pretty heavy, and with our son, it’s not practical. So we have opted for stainless steel.
  • Better for the environment. Plastic never truly decomposes, and pollutes our soil and water, in turn poisoning the produce and fish we eat.
